Our Philosophy
Teaching children using evidence based procedures is an essential component
of our instructional philosophy. All services are based on the principles
of applied behavior analysis and components of the Comprehensive Application
of Behavior Analysis to Schooling (CABAS®) philosophy. The Faison
School program is comprehensive in that it applies the findings from the
science of behavior to teach students, parents, teachers, and supervisors.
Intensive individualization is provided to students, parents, and teachers
by highly trained behavior analysts who are licensed special educators.
The Faison School is a data driven system of schooling. The data collected
are continually reviewed and evaluated, and are used to monitor progress
towards instructional goals and to determine when and what instructional
changes may be necessary.
Our Curriculum
Children are taught skills individually and in groups across the following
repertoires:
Listening, speaking, reading, writing, using a variety of reinforcers.
The school age curriculum also consists of programs targeting VAAP goals,
activities of daily living (ADL’s), SOL’s and pre-vocational
and vocational goals. All curricular components are individualized for
each student and implemented using evidence based procedures and data
collection.
Staff and Training
The professionals at The Faison School are involved in an on-going program
for acquiring expertise as strategic scientists of instruction. Each person’s
level of competency in teaching and knowledge of the science of behavior
is advanced each week as all teachers participate in regular teacher training
modules. The teachers also participate in local and international conferences,
training workshops and lectures.
