| Functional Assessment and Behavior Intervention Planning Functional assessments and the development of behavior intervention plans based on assessment data are an extremely effective method for helping to produce long-term improvement in a wide variety of problem behavior. The consulting staff at The Faison School has expertise in this technical area and a proven track record of success in producing positive change. This five visit* technical assistance package will not only develop a working behavior intervention plan, but also provide valuable training and experience for the team in effective functional assessment techniques and model behavior intervention planning. Visit 1 (6 hours) Review the child’s records, observe the child in the settings in which the behavior occurs, meet with relevant staff, and develop a data collection system to record information needed for the functional assessment. Visit 2 (3 hours) Conduct formal functional assessment interviews with relevant personnel, review data collected since Visit 1 and, if necessary, refine the data collection system. Visit 3 (3 hours) Meet with the team to review all functional assessment data. Hypotheses will be developed as to the function of the problem behavior and the antecedent variable that may be influencing the behavior. The team will begin to develop a comprehensive behavior intervention plan. Visit 4 (3 hours) Meet with the team to review all new data collected and complete the behavior intervention plan. Staff will be trained in the implementation of all aspects of the behavior intervention plan. Visit 5 (3 hours) Observe the child in the setting in which the behavior occurred and obtain impressions from staff as to the overall effectiveness of the behavior intervention plan. The consultant will review all data collected and meet with the team to modify the plan as appropriate. *Some plans may not be as lengthy and will be individualized to each student. |
