The Faison School for Autism affiliated with the VCU Autism Center of Virginia currently accepts applications for admission for children ages 18 months to 22 years with an independent diagnosis of autism or autism spectrum disorder. Children will be selected for admission based on completion of all admission criteria and determination by The Faison School team, local education agency eligibility team and family that the program is appropriate for the child.

Application Process:

• Completed Faison School application form
• Physical and/or medical evaluations
• Psychological or psychiatric evaluations (with formal diagnosis)
• IEP, IFSP or other formalized education plan
• Eligibility information
• Adaptive behavior evaluation (may be part of social history)
• Audio logical evaluation
• Vision testing
• Immunization records (since birth)
• Parent Interview at The Faison School
• Applicant Screening at The Faison School
• Home Observation

Enrollment or placement in The Faison School’s early intensive behavioral intervention program or school age program is voluntary. All intervention provided at the school is evidence-based.

If there is a wait list the family will be notified and as openings for service arise, they will be contacted on a first come-first serve basis

Off Site Services:
In order to receive off-site services from The Faison School for Autism, a student must have a current primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (children with other developmental diagnoses will be reviewed on a case by case basis after an initial assessment by Faison School staff). The eligibility documents must be prepared and signed by one of the following individuals: a local education agency eligibility team; a licensed clinical psychologist; a pediatrician; or a professional otherwise qualified to diagnose developmental disorders.

An inquiry form is completed and tracked by the Off-site staff. Referrals that are placed on a wait list will be contacted periodically to determine whether they wish to remain on the wait list. As openings for service arise, they will be contacted on a first come-first serve basis.
